It’s Time For Some Article Marketing

Posted by South Bay Bones on Monday, August 18th, 2008

Article marketing is a way for you to establish yourself as an expert in your niche. Using a pen name for each niche is also important. You do not want visitors looking up your name and finding out that you have articles on various subjects. For those niches that you are passionate about and have extensive knowledge or insight to that subject, use your real name.

You can be an expert in a few niches but an expert in 50 niches. Sorry, I don’t buy it.

So, the first thing I do is pick the article (from a batch of PLR articles I have rights to) based around the keywords for that niche. Now, here’s the thing.

When using PLR articles you want to rewrite the entire article and put it into your own words. This is different from using these articles for your blog or website. Submitting an article to article directories that is PLR material not rewritten will get you penalized and maybe even banned.

I use the program Keyword Buzz to find additional long tail keywords for the article. I pick about 4 or 5 and try to mix them into the article content. If I cannot get a sentence to make sense then I won’t use the keyword. Simple as that. I do mix in at least 2 keywords.

I read through the PLR article to get an idea of the content. I then go paragraph by paragraph and put the article into my own words, mixing in my keywords as I go along.

It takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to rewrite a 500-600 word article.

Now, it’s time to submit the article to the directories.  I have read varied views on this.  From some,  I get for “link love” to your site is to submit your article to the numerous directories out there.  From others,  get you only have to submit your site to the top five article directories.

So at the minimum, you want to submit your site to the top directories.   I have created a list for myself and submit to  the top 5 article directories.

Getting Traffic

Posted by South Bay Bones on Saturday, August 16th, 2008

My Internet connection has been down for the last few days. Verizon FIOS became available in our area and we got it. It’s run through fiber optic cables. My connection slowed down right after it was installed. Anyways, it’s still not the best but I’m back on.

So now, it’s on to getting traffic. As in choosing a business model, there are numerous ways to get traffic to your website.

There’s article marketing, Web 2.0 which includes social bookmarking and story submission, link directories both reciprocal and one way, RSS and blog submission to directories, free ebook submission directories (once it’s ready), and I will look into others but this is good for a start.

The thing is to focus on one aspect at a time.

I have started doing RSS and I use RSS Announcer for my RSS submissions. I have also done blog submissions but I do this manually. Some of the links in RSS Announcer are to blog directories so that cuts out on some that I have to submit to. The one automated I have tried and used and I can’t remember the name of it right now, the sites were outdated and some did not even work. RSS Announcer has some of those issue to but it works pretty darn good. It’s about automating your business as much as possible.

This is going to take some to to submit to the blog directories manually.

Adding Content To A Niche Blog

Posted by South Bay Bones on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

There are basically three ways that I know of to get articles for your website. They are writing them yourself, outsourcing to a ghostwriter or my favorite, using PLR articles.

Using PLR articles you can change the content a little bit or rewrite the entire article. For posting purposes to a blog you don’t want to take a lot of time doing it. It should take less than 10 minutes to modify an article.

Now, when writing an article for the article directories you will want to rewrite the entire article to avoid duplicate content. The big directories will not post your article and penalize you if you just submit unedited articles.

I am getting ahead of myself here and will talk about rewriting for articles in a later post.

In my earlier post I talked about adding content for the first 30 days. Using the edit timestamp feature in Wordpress, this is possible. I spread my posts out every 3-4 days so I only need to modify 10 articles. Now once these 10 articles are posted I don’t want to forget to keep adding content on a consistent basis.

What I do is create a spreadsheet with the activities I have done or am doing for each blog. Some things are only done once and others are ongoing (like adding new content). So I set it up where I put the day and date to remind myself when to make another post. I schedule it for one day in the week and be sure I do it.

This way I am already ahead of myself with new posts being added every few days and I can work on marketing my blogs and building new ones.

The time consuming part to all of this is actually copying and pasting the initial 30 articles to my blog. Adding tags, a good description and keywords is very important. I ensure I do this on each post.

From start to finish in getting a blog setup with the initial 30 days of content added should take no more than 4-5 hours.

Building A Niche Blog Using Wordpress

Posted by South Bay Bones on Sunday, August 10th, 2008

There is some worked involved with this but with its flexibilty and the ability to use article marketing among other traffic generating techniques, I like this model.

Now, I am setting up my niche blogs manually. There is not a whole lot more worked involved but you must know how to set up a MySQL database.

I’m using Jeff Johnson’s SEO optimized theme because it is not that difficult to setup and then I use a theme called Floralia because it’s a basic 3-column theme and I can use niche headers that I modify in Photoshop.

Using Jeff Johnson’s setup the plugins he has included somehow in setup already have them activated. I use a few more plugins that are not included in his package and so I need to activate them manually. (I need to figure out how to have the plugins I include activated automatically.)

  • The first thing I do is get organized. I download the theme from the Jeff’s website. I unzip the package and save it to a folder I create. Then I add the plugins and my Floralia theme to the appropriate folders on my computer. Also I change the CSS file to a background color, footer, sidebar, header, etc. to the colors i feel fit the theme of the site.
  • Next I go to a folder in my computer that has various niche headers I can use. All I need to do is to add my website name and a slogan if I want. Rename it, put it in my themes images folder and I’m good to go.
  • Now it’s off to creating the MySQL database.
  • From there I create a subdomain. I use subdomains because my funds are limited. It may be difficult later on to transfer my sites to their own dedicated domains but whatcha gonna do.
  • Then I upload all the files to the subdomain I created. I CHMOD the files in my theme folder to 666 so I can modify them. I also CHMOD the sitemap files to 666.
  • I then go to my plugins and activate the plugins I need activated and set them up.
  • I change my theme.
  • Then it’s off to adding content. First its off to editing the PLR articles I have for that niche and do a moderate rewrite. Changing the title, and just ensuring the article makes sense and is readable. This is a little time consuming so I don’t need to do it all at once. My ideal situation will allow me to add at least 30 days of content. At the same time I don’t want to spend 3 days getting these article added.
  • Now it’s off to getting the Adsense code for the site and finding comparable affiliate programs. After locating these programs I use a rotator for these programs at the bottom of my posts and also the sidebar. For Adsense I put it on the single post page and put it below the title but above the content using the 336×220 rectangular ad.

That’s the setup for the blog. I may have missed some things but I do, but this is what I remember off the top of my head without referring back to my notes. Next it is off to marketing this site.

No Wonder It’s So Confusing For A Newbie

Posted by South Bay Bones on Sunday, August 10th, 2008

With so many business models in which to start an Internet Marketing business and Virtual Real Estate empire, no wonder it is confusing.  Everything from building Google Adsense content sites to builing a mailing list and building a content site using a blog using Blogger or Wordpress or bum marketing..

This is from what I’ve read and learned through various ebooks, audios and visiting Internet Marketing forums.

Going the route of building Adsense content sites, it takes a lot of sites to build an income this way.  Adsense based content sites are based on high qualifying keywords and the highest paying keywords is a very competitive market.

Building a mailing list is very important.  It is not difficult.  It is simple but not easy.  Create a landing page that redirects to a one time offer page for backend sales and setting up an autoresponder.   There is a lot more work involved with this type of model.  Setting up an autoresponder, creating a landing page, one time offer page, payment links, etc. there is a lot more setup involved.

Bum marketing involves setting up affiliate products and writing articles based around long tail keywords that you submit to article directories.  This can expanded on and that is why I am going to build my virtual real estate empire using Wordpress blogs and marketing through articles and other other avenues.

Wordpress seems to be the most flexible with its numerous themes and plugins that are available for it.  It is pretty simple to setup if you have your own domain with cpanel.  Using Fantasico, it will setup the MySQL database for you and install the basic files for you.

Also, Wordpress can be installed manually and I choose to do this because then when I create my SQL databases I know which database goes to what site.

Now adding the themes and plugins you need will probably require some research in finding a matching theme and right plugins for your site.

Then it’s about finding good affiliate programs to promote plus you can use Adsense and a lot of other advertising avenues.  Then it’s on to adding content which you can post date using the edit timestamp feature.  Next step is marketing which is another subject all together.
